The lowest occurrence of Chiasmolithus oamaruensis: an excellent criterion to define the Bartonian/Priabionian boundary on a global scale

No source specified

Chiasmolithus oamaruensis is an almost globally occurring calcareous nannofossil taxon, whose lowest occurrence, defining the base of calcareous nannofossil zone NP18, seems to be synchronous worldwide within Chron C17n.1n. This event coincides with the LO of the dinocyst Rhombodinium perforatum and falls within planktic foraminiferal zone P15 of Berggren et al., 1995. However, its LO is known to predate the LO of Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta in southwesten France and Egypt.
