The clupeomorphs (Pisces, Teleostei) from the Cenomanian (Cretaceous) of Kipala (Kwango, Zaire): Osteology and phylogeny
BELGIAN JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY, 127(1):75-97.
`'Diplomystus'' dartevellei, Eoknightia caheni and Nolfia kwangoensis, the three Cenomanian clupeomorph teleosts from Kipala (Kwango, Zaire), are restudied. Their systematic position within the clupeomorph phylogeny is discussed and a phylogenetic cladogram proposed. A new genus, Kwangoclupea, is erected for `'D.'' dartevellei which is the immediate apomorphic sister-group of the Ellimmichthyiformes. Eoknightia is more apomorphic than Kwangoclupea and represents the plesiomorphic sister-group of a clade including Spratticeps, Santanaclupea and the Clupeiformes. Nolfia appears to be a clupeoid.
