A new hippolytid shrimp, Hippolyte sapphica sp. nov. from the Lesbos island, North-eastern Aegean Sea, is described here. The new species is compared with Hipplyte inermis LEACH and H. longirostris (CZERNIAVSKY) with which it has often been confused so far.
